HARD TO FIND PIECE!
This is a rare19th century carved wood Santo Nino de Atocha. Latest origin is from Miami, but its provenance is Cuba whose original owners migrated from Cuba and brought it here in Miami. It measures 9 1/4" inches tall x 4 1/2" wide x 3” deep and weighs in at 11 oz. It is polychrome painted with gesso done in the traditional santo making is in excellent condition with paint solidly attached to the wood. Shiny patina with very dark blue vestment and reds, greens and silver designs. It is very hard to find an authentic 19th century Nino de Atocha like this one and rarer to find one that has a complete attributes with it. The Nino will be seen held by the Virgin Mother of Atocha or like this one may be sitting on a chair holding a stick with a water jug and a food basket on the other hand. Hands and feet and all its attributes are missing and part of the nose is chipped.
