Late 17th Century to early 18th Century (over 200 years old and one of the oldest we have on stock) handcarved wood primitive image of Nuestra Sra del Salvacion. Provenance is Iloilo, Philippines. It stands 14 1/4" H x 5" W x 3 1/2" deep and weights 2 lbs/4 oz. Notice the deep carvings and primitive style of this image belongs to the late 17th century and early 18th century. This is about the time that the Chinese were expelled from the Philippines. Very little woodworm damage because it was carved of a very heavy type of hardwood. It may have been carved by Chinese artisans. Notice the chinese features of the virgin and nino, the nino even wearing a typical chinese headgear and clothing style. It is in remarkable condition with heavy coats of crackled paint on their vestments. It is possible that it was repainted several times during the centuries it existed. Colors are green, red, gold gilt and light purple. Our Lady of Salvacion is the Virgin carrying Jesus in Her left arm, the serpent's head is crushed under the feet, and her right hand is holding a man and an angel in kneeling position.
