Traditional Central American Carving
This is a large 19th century Central Latin American Cristo crucificado. The cross is ebony black and the base blue-black.The corpus is carved wood, gessoed and polychrome painted. Gory blood details really old paint, but with minor paint loss. The cristo is in very good condition except for the chipped ear. Fingers, toes and major body parts are complete. May have been originally wearing loin cloth and wig. The INRI sign on the cross is missing.
