Italian Vintage Carving!
This is a masterfully handcarved wood statue of St. Anthony of Padua or San Antonio de Padua. It is over 50 years old (vintage) from the famous carving studios of Ditta Gofferdo Moroder & Figli in Italy. Quality matches or surpasses that of ANRI. St. Anthony 18 1/2"High X "5.5"Wide X 4"Deep (2.3 lbs.) and is in excellent condition. He is finished with a natural dark oil wash.
San Antonio de Padua is always depicted in paintings and carvings wearing a Franciscan friar robe holding the Infant Child Jesus or a Book with his left hand and a bunch of lilies with his right hand. The Child Jesus miraculously appeared to him and is commonly known today as “finder of lost articles”. Birth 1195 Death 1231 Saint Anthony was canonized (declared a saint) less than one year after his death.
