Patron Saint of Nicaragua
Antique wood carved santo of San Geronimo or Saint Jerome is often depicted genuflecting on a rock/cave with a lion on his knees, a book with a skull on it. His body is usually in a skin and bone state. If his hands are still present he will be holding a rock and inflicts injury on himself as a sacrifice to God. It measures 7" high by 4.5” wide by 2.75 " deep at the base and weighs 4.5 oz. It is all original paint of various colors (red, green, yellow-green,blue, black & white) is intact and well adhered. It is untouched from where it came from (Masaya, Nicaragua where he is the patron saint) dust, votive candle remains and all. Attributes are still present, he cave, the lion, book and skull. A very interesting piece for collectors who love this type of art. The piece is missing its two hands and remnant of old glue is still at the stubs of the arms. Part of his halo is missing.
