This is a 19th century Mexican Virgen del Rosario or our Lady of the Rosary or Madonna and Child, handcarved, gessoed and polychromed (with estofado gold gilding on the robe). It was originally bought in New Mexico many years ago. Notice the native features, oversized head and arms. Unique and original gold gilt base may have had faux candles or flowers at the front corners and has been partially repainted at the top of base. Stands 12" high to top of silver crown & 9" without crown X 4.5" wide X 4" deep base. She weighs 11.5 oz. Condition as shown is a superb piece no missing parts on the sculpture itself. Silver crown is not included in the price. Additional price of $100 for the silver crown.
