This is a finely carved early 19th century Portuguese Colonial santos from Brazil, Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Immaculate Conception), handcarved, gessoed thickly and polychrome painted. This beautiful piece is highly detailed and has a baroque quality that is reflected in the "estofado" style. She has tiny glass eyes and three beautiful cherubs below her attached to the clouds. Painting which seems to have been stabilized and parts of it repainted. Stands 10.25" high x 4.25" wide x 3.5" deep and weighs 12.8 oz.
