Beautiful Italian Sacred Heart of Mary!

You are looking on a vintage (1950’s) SUPERB quality figure of the Sagrada Corazon de Virgen Maria or the Sacred Heart of Mary. Her head and body is carved out of solid wood (lindenwood?). Her left hand and base are carved separately. Three wood dowels can be seen at the bottom of the base which holds the body to the base. There is a stamp at the bottom of the base “MADE IN ITALY”. Note her beautiful facial expression depicts peacefulness and serenity. Note also the lace pattern of her dress collar (which is typical of the Italian carvings of madonnas), the three roses on her flaming heart and the dagger that pierces it . Also note how uniquely her head was carved with her forehead a little oversized. Beautiful pastel polychrome painted body has minor paint loss at the side of the base (hardly noticeable),gold gilt trimming and shiny patina on the face.Total height of the figure is 24 inches high x 6 inches wide x 6 inches deep. The total weight of the figure and base is 4lb-8oz. A similar new sculpture of this size made in Italy will cost around $2,200 (e-mail us if you want to see the site).
