Superb Terracota Figure!
You are looking at a 19th century terracota figure of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (Catarina or Catalina) collected from Italy during the 1960's. This piece is obviously hand sculpted and hand painted if one looks under the base because there is no evidence of using a casting mold. Wonderful dull colors of purple, blue-green, gold, cream crackled over time and rich patina. Condition is superb without cracks or chips unusual for an item this old. She is holding her sword of courage with her right hand and her palm of martyrdom with her left hand. Dimensions: 7.5” High x 3.5” Wide x 2.5” Deep and weighs 1 lb.
