Origin: Tuscany, Italy Material: Alabaster/resin Size: 12" High X 3.25" Wide X 3.25" Deep, Weight: 2 Lbs Condition: Mint This exquisite figure of the biblical "DAVID" is a replica of the original created by Michelangelo Buonarroti and replicated by Gino Ruggeri, with his signature on the rear baseI Gino Ruggeri, is one of the most well known sculptors in Italy, worked many years for Tito Bianchi in Bianchi's Factory in Tuscany. He developed a means of mixing alabaster with resin to make it more durable and waterproof. Very fine detail. The David is considered a masterpiece and was erected in 1504 in the public plaza of Florence, the Piazza della Signoria. DAVID depicts an ideal male form combining heroic strength and human uncertainty as he stood up to Goliath. Data: Gino Ruggeri's works included "The Stations of the Cross" in 1976. He was born in Volterra (Pisa) the country of alabaster. He worked many years for Tito Bianchi who sold out his factory in 1987 to Amilcare Santini. The Santini family now control the rights to Ruggeri's works, i.e. 1987 forward. Ruggeri had several original Alabaster/resin sculptures that are considered masterpieces, two of which are "The Stations of the Cross and DAVID." Replicas of "David" are legion, including the famous 'parts' of David. |
