This is a 19th century hand carved wood and polychrome painted over gesso base or pedestal or "Peana (spanish) for a saint. It will display a LARGE saint and will enhance its beauty and value. Many antique saints have lost their bases and this will be an excellent replacement providing it matches the saints' color scheme. It has a large dowel at the top to attach the saint. It is constructed in seven pieces (the top slab, middle portion, lower portion and the four separately carved feet) and attached together with wood dowels devoid of nails. The four legs are handcarved acanthus leaves design and so is the mid-base. Color schemes are of gold, red, green and yellow. It is 6" high X 8.5" wide X 7.5" deep and weighs approx. 2 lbs.
