This is an antique late 18th century carved wood Santo figure in excellent condition. It is a typical representation of San Francisco de Asis or Saint  Francis of Asissi carved in the Noerthern Provinces. His right hand may have been holding a cross (one of his attributes) and halo missing. He is holding on his left hand a dove (Holy Spirit) on a plate. We have not seen pieces similar to this. Note the sharp edges of the vestment and the base (very unique style). This is an original and unrestored as found. Paint is original having the "Estofado" style gold gilt over black. This San Francisco is is another one of the higher end and probably a commissioned custom piece.
The santo measures about 14.5"tall X 5.5"wide X 3.4" deep at the base and weighs 1lb. 7.4 oz.  It is made entirely of a dense hardwood probably of the Molave type. There is a 3" long crack in front of the upper base and a glued separation at the bottm base as shown in the pictures. This is truly a unique piece, was carved in full attention to details. Notice small chip of wood on the plate he is holding. The long flowing garment below his elbows are typical of 18th century style carving.
