MARFILES CRISTIANOS DEL ORIENTE EN MEXICO
by Beatriz Sanchez de Pintado
A very desireable collectible book on Ivory Saints or Santos in Mexico that comes from the Orient specifically from the Philippines. The Philippines was a major source of Catholic imagery such as saints/santos carved from ivory during the Spanish colonial period. Many of these were brought to Mexico and other Spanish Colonial countries through trade. The book is written in Spanish. The book is new still in its original shrink wrap. Hardbound 12” x 9 ½”. The front corners are bent.
Another interesting collectible book worth mentioning for the Santos enthusiast is entitled “IVORIES FROM THE FAR EASTERN PROVINCES OF SPAIN AND PORTUGAL By Margarita Mercedes Estella Marcos”. This book also written in Spanish likewise informs the reader of devotional art during the Spanish Colonial and Portuguese Colonial Period.
