Description and History: This is a very good quality image of the Virgen Dolorosa. Carved out of Molave (Philippine hardwood) and polychrome painted over gesso. There is very little damage to the wood and no insect damage at all because the Molave wood is insect resistant. There is a scuff at the cherubs forehead and nose, slight chip on her nose and a ½” long chip at the back of the base. She is still holding her handkerchief. There is major paint loss and much of the wood, gesso and original paint has blended to the exposed wood.
