This is an Antique carved wood image of San Geronimo or Saint Jerome. He is the patron saint of Masaya, Nicaragua from which he came. We have acquired a number of these beautiful scarce images from an avid collector. He had this one fully restored. Complete body parts and attributes including the thorny whip, a brass halo, the rock he is holding, the skull and the lion. Amazing coloring and museum quality restoration.
San Geronimo is often depicted genuflecting on a rock/cave with a lion on his knees, a book with a skull on it. His body is usually in a skin and bone state.  He is holding a rock and inflicts injury on himself as a sacrifice to God.   A very interesting piece for collectors who love this type of art. Feel free to email us for additional questions or photos.
