This is an early 20th century carved wood image Lady of Guadalupe or Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (generally recognized as a symbol of all Catholic Mexicans). Carved by the renowned Cortes santero family. It is signed D. Cortes at the front of base and stamped Made in Mexico at the right side of the base. A small chip on one of the rays and a missing crown but otherwise in excellent condition. Natural finish with floral decorations. There are versions of this piece made by the same artist that are very colorful and decorated with various details. See similar piece SKU# 2016123 which was produced by a sibling R. Cortes.
