San Miguel de Arcangel #1, Early 20th Century, Brazil
This is an early 20th C. Brazilian carved wood over gesso and polychrome image of San Miguel de Archangel (Saint Michael the Archangel). It is very interesting since it has information at the base bottom about who was it made for, when and how much the custom piece is. He has lost his wings, two hands and supposedly its sword and scale, but he is extremely charming and unique. His eyes are made of some kind of black stones. Beautiful bright colors and estofado technique gold gilt decorations. Original paint and only minor paint loss.
