Nossa Senhora da Conceição
This is a finely carved early 18th century Portuguese Colonial santos from Brazil, Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Immaculate Conception), handcarved, and polychrome painted. This beautiful piece is highly detailed and has a baroque style that is reflected in the carving. She has major paint loss due to age, has wood loss and a half inch crack on her veil. She has original glass eyes and three beautiful cherubs below her attached to the clouds. Thorough inspection reveals that the virgin's face and the cherub's face were professionally refreshed many years ago. The paint is also very old and shows wear. The carving is complete except perhaps a silver crown. Very collectible piece which has sold up to over 1K in auctions.
