This Infant of Prague is a collectible Lefton porcelain made in Japan during the 1950’s. This particular piece is probably made right after 1953 as indicated by the Lefton label attached below the base and can be verified by its history below. It also has markings “Infant of Prague KW652” and Lefton China Hand Painted, Reg. US patent Off. Its condition is EXCELLENT with no visible damage. Knowing these pieces, there is a smaller  6.0" version that has a cork stopper pinned to the crown and corked over a hole on the head so that the crown is removable. This version is the 9" high and does not have the cork and the crown is permanently attached to the head. The piece is comprised of four medias: porcelain (body), cloth (collar and hand trimmings), rhinestones (body décor) and metal (crown). The floral clothing design is handpainted, The lace trimmings are ruffled, stiffened and glued to the body. The later versions which were made during the 70’s are less desirable because the crown and collar/hand trimmings were integrated into the body. It was an attempt to reduce labor and material cost and therefore lower quality. Additionally, manufacturing was subcontracted and no longer made in Japan.
